Get hands-on with clay in this fun, beginner-friendly five-week ceramics course at VIA Studio Newcastle. Led by Jo-Jo, you’ll explore a different hand-building technique each week, learning how to pinch, coil, and slab-build your own ceramic forms. You’ll then have a week to experiment and create your own piece using the techniques you’ve learned before finishing the course with an introduction to basic glazing. Whether you’re completely new to ceramics or looking to develop your skills, this relaxed and creative workshop is open to absolutely everyone.What you’ll explore:
Week 1 - 15th October: Pinch techniques
Week 2 - 22th October: Coil techniques
Week 3 - 29th October: Slab techniques
Week 4 - 5rd Novemeber: Free-making and creative experimentation
2-week break -
Week 5 - 26th November: Glazing and finishing
What you'll get
2-hour guided hand-building pottery instruction suitable for beginners
High-quality white Raku clay to create your unique pieces
Use of all pottery tools and equipment
Expert guidance from our experienced ceramic artist Jo Jo throughout the session
Bisque firing and glaze firing of your finished pieces
Tea, coffee, and light refreshments
A relaxed, welcoming atmosphere in our inspiring warehouse-style art studio
Small class sizes for plenty of individual support
Your finished ceramic creations to collect once firing is complete
Firing and glazing are included for up to 2 small pieces.
Please note: Your creations will be professionally fired after the workshop and ready for collection approximately 3–4 weeks after glazing - just in time for Christmas!
